Why I’m “All-In” On Interview Automation in 2026 (And You Should Be Too!)

For over a decade, I’ve been monitoring the “interview automation” landscape.

I’ve always held the belief that interviewing is the single most important part of the hiring process. I also think it’s the part most riddled with inefficiencies and errors.

As a result, I’ve made it my mission to address the challenges of interviewing throughout my career.

For example, over ten years ago I deployed a recorded video interview solution at The Hershey Company.

That tool transformed the efficiency of our retail sales hiring process. And, it made me a believer that interviews could be automated.

Several years later, I started, grew, and sold my own interview tech startup called “HireBar”. HireBar automated interview guide creation for large companies who wanted to interview better.

Since I sold HireBar, I sat back and watched the interview tech industry consolidate and innovate. But nothing caught my eye until last year when two technologies converged – AI and interview platforms.

Over the last year, my team and I spent several months mapping the broader interview tech landscape.

We looked at AI-powered voice screening, asynchronous video interviewing, and AI interview transcription.

What we saw wasn’t perfect, but it was impressive enough to invest in a solution and begin experimenting.

This year, we’re doubling down on interview automation. I’ll be writing more about this throughout the year.

If you’re considering AI for candidate screening in 2026, drop me a line via the button below and I’ll give you 4 things to get you started and/or accelerate your search for the right tool.

What are the 4 freebies?

  1. The “HOW TO” process I use to find, evaluate, and select TA technology.

  2. The FREE tool I use to manage the process of technology selection.

  3. The FREE tool I use to evaluate a bunch of tools.

  4. And if you’d like…I can make a personal email introduction to trusted interview automation vendors.

If it helps, I’ll continue sharing some other ways I’m using AI in the recruiting process throughout the year too.

For now, “interview automation” is where I’m investing a great deal of my time, energy, and budget in 2026.
